One of my favorite rhetorical devices is the double entendre, and country music does it so well. You probably can’t get three songs into any given playlist without a play on words included somewhere in the lyrics, but following are a few examples in which the entire song is structured to employ the beautiful storytelling gem that is the double entendre:
The One That Got Away | Tim McGraw
Blowin’ Smoke | Kacey Musgraves
Even Now | Caitlin and Will
Homeboy | Eric Church
The Way He Was Raised | Josh Turner
Wasted | Carrie Underwood
