Burt’s Bees Almond & Milk Hand Cream is one of my favorite scents on the planet. It smells like riding BART home at dusk from somewhere on the weekend, and cold early mornings at Crocker Galleria to evade the possibility of train delays. It’s packaged in these chunky little two ounce jars . . . 99.0% natural with nutrient rich botanicals. There’s something almost cherry that lingers in the scent of the almond & milk. An olfactory blush to coordinate with all the grapefruit-flamingo shades I’ve curated thus far in my thirties. Mostly in the form of bedsheets and journals and water-color paintings framed on my wall. I don’t wear blush much in makeup or clothing, though I do believe it compliments the melanin in my skin tone. I still find myself drawn to earthy ocean tones . . . the neutrals. “Raw Coast” as my friend, KL discovered it classified when she worked as a personal stylist.

I recently made my way through Classic Style by Kate Schelter in which she profiles a few of her industry friends and acquaintances by illustrating their personal favorites . . . similar to the snapshot posts I cataloged here a few years ago. I think those water-colored profiles were my favorite part.

I’ve got a long list of gratitudes I’ve been adding to for years now. Intentionally specific items and experiences I’m thankful for. I’ve also got a jar of the Burt’s Bees right next to me. Creamy and whipped and emollient. And I wonder if there’s any of it waiting for me up where I won’t need it . . . satisfyingly rested on some teak piece of latticed bohemian craftsmanship . . . nestled in my Mansion In Glory. Ha.
