All rest is is nourishing my soul. It’s no less essential than respiration; no less a necessity than food to stay alive. To say it so simply is incredibly validating and helpful; yet there is so much more to rest just than that. Faith is a rest. So then, rest is a weapon. Or perhaps better stated, a strategy. Without rest, we won’t receive what God provides. There’s complexity to this very basic necessity. There is so much at stake in the invitation to rest, and so much more that could be said … but for now, when condemnation comes hurling guilt towards me for enjoying my life and setting boundaries that allow me to rest, I will simply remind myself that I am merely – and appropriately – nourishing my soul.
